The Spanish word “hondura” in English means “depth,” a fitting term symbolizing the depth of the Honduran peoples’ despair, frustration, and yearning for a better life. A picture of darkness that covers this beautiful country and the diversity of its people. It lies in the middle of Central America and is home to one of the the world’s highest murder rates. It is one of the poorest and least developed countries in Latin America with nearly two-thirds of Hondurans living in poverty. So many of its children experience a limited childhood because they have to go to work, often in exploitative conditions. Political corruption. Drug cartels. Gangs. These are just a few of the heavy burdens that Hondurans have to deal with on a daily basis.
All this to be said, but yet God is still not finished. He continues to paint bright shimmers of hope that reaches across Honduras, that penetrates even the darkest of places. We are believing with your help and partnership- we can go to the depths of that darkness to show them the One who brings Living Hope. Hope that fosters faith, family, and a bright future to Honduras.
